City’s Sunset
2024
Immanuel Kant’s theory of the sublime explores experiences that overwhelm our senses and understanding,
often tied to vast, uncontainable natural forces. For Kant, the sublime reveals the limits of human perception
and intellect, prompting a sense of awe and humility. This feeling contrasts sharply with the ordered,
manageable spaces of a city, where human-made structures impose control over the environment.
In the city, everything is scaled to human proportions, but the sublime—found in nature’s grandeur—confronts us
with our smallness, offering an intense beauty that resists the structured familiarity of urban life.
